This morning on KPCC, I heard a report about Meatless Monday. It shows up in my Twitter feed as well. Frankly, today I had to say something: humans are designed to eat meat!
The Meatless Monday site lists several reasons to give up red meat. Just to be clear, I do not participate in this misguided movement. First, I feel better when I eat sufficient amounts of meat, especially from cattle, lambs, and pigs. Chickens are marginal. Fish goes in waves (sometimes I do well; sometimes it’s not a good idea). Second, I believe the evidence that defines humans as omnivores.
As an avowed grass-fed meat eater, I have a few questions:
- Have they read articles like Study fails to link saturated fat, heart disease?
- Do they know the differences between grain-fed and grass-fed?
- Better Beef
- Slanker’s Grass Fed Meats (where I shop)
- U. S. Wellness Meats
- Eat Wild
- Have they considered that rain-watered pastures save even more natural resources?
- Have they looked into research that fingers polyunsaturated fats: Polyunsaturated Oils Increase Cancer Risk
I shan’t give up red meat on Mondays or on any other day. I save the environment by eating primarily grass-fed meat from happy, well cared for animals, who are not filled full of drugs.
Do you participate in Meatless Monday? Why or why not?
