Lived Faith
Pray
- Misconceptions about God the Father in combination with a high-negative affect can lead to malformed prayer.
Proclaim
- Duty. Bearing Jesus’ image, proclaiming his good news, and loving as he loves form the church into a community that glorifies God by proclaiming the gospel through words of truth and acts of love.
- Content. The good news consists of the fact that Jesus is the Savior and Lord, eternal life exists only in relationship with him; the blunt news is that he is the only one and without him eternal death is certain.
Worship
- Being Worshipers. Being a people who are all about Jesus must shape everything about us, for he is both the object and master of our worship. Therefore, we choose to love rent one another rather than hold grudges. We choose to submit to his correction and discipline in order to develop the tools for skillful living that result from maintaining a deep respect for him. We choose to acknowledge our condition, confess our need, and trust the only one who saves.
- Practice of Worship. Worship takes place in the gathering and the dispersing, fit we are always in his presence. Therefore, we choose to worship his way, following the plan he has given us, keeping his requirements in the dailies, and always remembering that he is right here.
God’s Supply
- Jesus is Enough. For those who trust Jesus, he is everything, for he alone is Life and Judge and Savior. Union with him brings true tranquility and wholeness. Circumstances or even the ongoing decision to suck it up do not. God has given us all we need in Jesus and through our relationship with him. We must not trust any other, for only Jesus is enough.
- God Cares. Receiving what we ask for in prayer has much more to do with God’s care than with our style. Even the worst bit of earthly distress is time-bound and used by God to show us Glory.
Some Ways of Thinking
- Holistic thinking starts with the understanding that everything is connected and properly understood in relation to the whole.
- Analytic thinking examines data in detail, often using math and a systemic way to produce information.
- Theory, theology, and philosophy provide ways to understand information by placing the particulars in a broader context.
- Gratitude has the appropriate positive response to receiving something satisfying or appealing.
- A lambent thing is characterized by light-hearted cleverness and a tranquil manner.
