A relationship of trust and remembered deliverance is the only safe way to enter the thick darkness of God’s presence. Left to our own devices, humanity leans toward servitude, forgetting what God has done for us while trusting ourselves and our false sufficiency. Those who do not know God are haunted by deep terror. But those in relationship with God in Christ by the Spirit receive the mercy and grace of God carried along by his deliverance, and they respond by trusting, knowing, respecting, and remembering him.
