Reflections on Exodus 19:3-6

Knowing God and ourselves in him requires that we remember what he has done for us by delivering us from domination under sin to a covenant relationship of love with him. In response to his overwhelming grace and mercy, we choose to follow him, to carry others before him in prayer and him before others in proclamation, and to offer continuous sacrifices of praise as we live as his distinct people in the world. Olders and overseers in each church community are responsible for instructing the people regarding their identity as priests of God and the related responsibilities of obedience, intercession, proclamation, and praise. We are God’s kingdom of priests and his distinct people; let us get the training we need and do the priestly work to which we have all been called.
